Golf tip for 25.01.2012

***STAR BET***
In the Abu Dhabi Championship 2012 which starts on thursday 26th, we recommend LAYING Martin Kaymer (bet on him not winning the tournament) @ odds of 7.8     Win
***STAR BET***

The odds are very good to lay Kaymer, considering the strength of the field, with Rory McIlroy, Luke Donald, Tiger Woods, Lee Westwood, Sergio Garcia, Charl Schwartzel and Jason Day.

  1. Using level stakes and level liability (for the lays) you are still in the red, according to your historical results.

Is backing these amazingly short odds really the way forward?

  2. Soccerdude my good man, if you had followed all of our tips, you would be making money. We tipped Kaymer not to win, and he is not going to win the Abu Dhabi Championship.

  3. Erm, no. Using your own results, at level stakes, you are still in the RED.

It's a very simple calculation (my good man).

  4. Soccerdude,

If you take the initial statistic of -400 as the starting point (seen as 4 have lost) and do the maths, and include both the lays of golfers at 100 points each you would in fact have a profit. Yes it is a very simple calculation. Try doing it again and let us know what the loss would be. Thanks for your comments, and thanks for reading.

  5. Yes, as I said, level stakes and level liability (the true test of any edge). I've even done you the favour of applying no commission and you still come out in the RED. Not sure how well/badly this will be formatted, but these are all your tips. Negative P/L:

  6. So, for £10 stake on a back and £10 liability on a lay, you come out -£3.02 down BEFORE commission.

Now, would you say your idea of backing horribly short odds favourites is working?

  7. Thanks for your comments Soccerdude. Nice to know someone is reading the blog. It's a new blog and it's getting off to an OK start. Thanks again.

  8. Okay, I appreciate that it's a new blog and there's a good chance that I'm judging you far too early. But I suppose it's the language you're using, talking about successes but not referring to your overall position.

My blog is relatively new also, so I'm in no position to start doling out advice. What I would say is that people are not stupid, so you have to be completely honest with your readers - and more importantly with yourself. Call a spade a spade. Tell it how it is and people will warm to you and start enjoying reading.

Cover things up or skirt the real issues and you would then be setting yourself for a fall.

    Anyway, good luck to you.

  9. Maybe you're right. We should perhaps have a look at the language we use when we post tips and in future, just let results speak for themselves. No need to say we have had 5 winners in a row, when the results show that we have eh?

Thanks again for the advice, it's duly noted, and shall be taken on board. Please do keep reading to see how things go for the future. Good luck to yourself as well.
